We are all a blur

I was going to write a book
When I had found the answer
All I found were riddles and
Coincidence and chances
Well I tried...
I drove South to find myself
There I found you
Rediscovering myself,
Vitality and view
You said you were going away
Sooner than was true
I had dreams that you might stay
But of course I knew
That you would drive...
So I searched the mouths and minds
Of lovers and romancers
I learned many clever things
Still I found no answers
I'm attributing more to
You than may be due
Still there is no shaking things
That so adhere to you
Now I see life in everything
Breathe in, blink and sigh
Oh, I may close the lids from time to time
But I'll never close my eyes

We were a few years
late to the party
At least we have pictures
to remember
satellites and sanitariums
Here are a few lines
for the few times
that we sat and talked
enough
to end up on the same page
For all of you in Athens
to Florida to New York
to Chicago
by way of Sylva
by way of Penn Yan and
the coast of Virginia
May your seasons transition softly
and may you never lose sight of enjoyment
through every suffocating summer
and every frigid winter
And when cicadas
screaming from the cages
of your doors awaken
you at 3 am
I hope you can remember
just how wonderful it is
just to be alive
Living the way that we do
doesn't make sense to most people
and it doesn't have to
